Newspaper Article for Israel

The State of Israel is a country in the Middle East. The State of Israel declared its independence in 1948, on May 14th, (5708, 05 lyar). The State of Israel was created to decrease the violence between the Jewish and the Arab people. The Palestine Mandate, a plan of dividing the territory into two parts, caused this violence. Zionism and the Holocaust were big contributions to the creation of the State of Israel. Zionism pressed the concept that the Jewish people rightfully belonged in the land of Israel. Zionism continues as a support system to the government and state to insure that Israel maintains the position as the homeland of the Jewish people.

Israel is the only Jewish state, making it very unique. It also is the only country in the Middle East considered a liberal democracy. It is one of the youngest countries and holds the largest population of Jewish people. Israel frequently experiences attacks by neighboring Arab territories and has had many wars in its short time as a country. There has always been tension and conflicts because of religions between the Jewish and the Arab people. They are almost continuously fighting off territories to save there land witch is why there have been so many wars.

One of the many strengths Israel has is there army. It is essential that they have a fierce army to protect their territory from the many attacks they endure. One of the biggest weaknesses is the geography id Israel. The neighboring countries of Israel lack financial status. Israel is behind in technology and is trying to advance.

My personal opinion with the history of Israel is that they should come they should try to make peace with the Arab people. I still don’t quite understand why they are attacked so often. I think that Israel is very different from the U.S. by technology, climate, religions, and the status of their security. They U.S. does not constantly have to fight to keep our country and Israel shouldn’t either.

Questions:

1. How do the people of Israel feel about being attacked so often?

2. How do you feel about the conflicts between Israel and Arabs?

1.The Israeli situation is very complex. The political tension is difficult to resolve, and racism is a serious factor on both sides of the conflict. I hate being at war, but I cannot say anything about being attacked, because war is not one-sided.

2.The conflicts between Israelis and Arabs are very strange. They seem to hate each other, and use a variety of statements and slogans to justify their views. However, there is also the occasional initiative to get individual (not politically involved) people from both sides to meet and discuss issues, and when you see those you cannot help but feel that the conflict is not really there at all. The conflict seems to be between governments alone, and I hope for a resolution.

PS: you state that Israel is behind in technology. Where did you get this information? I have never observed a real difference, except in the financial situation of individuals - the average American seems to have somewhat more. You can see as many iPods here as there, and vice versa. We haven't been behind for quite some time, and my recent move from California to Israel has been very smooth in this respect. Climate is a very different matter, as is culture.

1) Obviously people in Israel aren’t thrilled about being attacked so often. Luckily, excluding the war in the summer, there are less attacks than the horrible year of 2000-20003. In those years people hardly went to crowded places and people were frightened due to the fear of terror attacks .
2)I feel very bad about the conflict between Israel and Arabs because it has been going on for so long and it doesn't look like it's close to being solved . Each side believes that they are right and at this point there seems to be very little space for a compromise or even negotiation between the two.
